Last weekend, we celebrated our friend, Brian's 30th birthday by heading up to Edmonds to Gallagher's Where U Brew. That's right we learned how to brew beer. We had no idea what to expect but soon learned that Gallagher's has got the process down.
When we arrived we were greeted with open arms and began a beer tasting as we had to decide what kind of beer we wanted to brew.

Brian, the birthday boy decided he wanted to brew a batch of the Galley Mac which is very similar to Mac & Jack (a local Seattle favorite) and a batch of the Stonebridge IPA which I assume is similar to Stone IPA.

They went over a few instructions and gave us the recipe, then we split up in teams and got to brewing. In the above picture on the right is the barley actually brewing like you would brew a batch of tea.. who knew?!

It took me back to my high school chemistry lab. Above is Drew and Brian measuring the Amber Malt for the Galley Mac.

Here is Garrett weighing the hops on a scale. See - lots of scientific measurements go into the beer brewing process.

Garrett "stirring like mad" - that was what the instructions told us to do.

It's a pretty cool process

I think we all learned a lot.

Garrett and Brian are going back in two weeks after it's done fermenting so that they can bottle our 25 gallons or 267 bottles off micro brews. Man that's a lot of beer, good thing it's split up between 6 people. Yeah, that's still A LOT of beer.
I would like to add TRIPLE B as my entry for the beer labels.
Happy {beer?} Friday!
